Man Allegedly Sets Apartment On Fire After Being Told To Stop Pleasuring Himself In Front Of Window

A Florida man was arrested Monday for allegedly setting his apartment on fire the night before.

Kenneth Haskins, of Tampa, apparently set his home on fire in retaliation against the management of his building complex. Haskins, 58, was upset that management told him to stop masturbating in front of his open windows, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

The fire at the Mar Plaza Apartments on Temple Heights Road began at around 10 p.m. Firefighters at the scene noticed smoke was coming from a second floor apartment. The fire was subdued within 20 minutes, however four people lost their homes, Tampa Fire Rescue officials told the Tampa Bay Times. There were no injuries.

Investigators concluded that flammable liquids were used to start the fire in Haskin's apartment, which was set in both the bedroom and the kitchen.

A neighbor of Haskins told police that Haskins told him he set the fire. Haskins, whose face is disfigured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was arrested and charged with felony first-degree arson.

Haskins, who was ordered to stop pleasuring himself in front of his open windows and front door, felt he had been wronged, police told the Tampa Bay Times.

Nearly 30 other apartments in the 80-apartment complex were evacuated at the time of the blaze. Haskin's apartment and the one next door suffered damage from the flames. Two other apartments suffered water damage. The Red Cross was contacted to help those who lost their homes find temporary shelter, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Tampa police said Haskins previously shot himself in the face using a shotgun. Haskins has lived at the Mar Plaza complex, which houses disabled people and senior citizens, for over 10 years, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

According to state records, Haskins has no significant criminal record in Florida. Haskins is currently held without bail at Orient Road Jail, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
