The action-adventure video game series "Tomb Raider" is now back with its "Definitive Edition."
The game is available at $60 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. A cheaper price at $30 is available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and $20 for other types of personal computers.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which is developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, is the latest prequel of the Tomb Raider game series. In comparison to the successful reboot of the game franchise in 2013, the latest game is much visually better and realistic in a 1080-pixel high definition display.
According to Square Enix, the latest game edition is enhanced with the use of TRESS FX technology and reworked lighting and shading. The enrichment will bring a naturalistic look of flowing hair and sweat, blood or mud on Lara Croft's face and body. The background was also created four times the resolution for additional detail.
Lara Croft is the protagonist of the game who is described as a young, beautiful, and intelligent lady archeologist, who loves traveling around the world to find archaic but risky tombs and ruins.
USA Today gave a quick overview of the game. At the start of the game, Croft is seen tied upside-down hanging in a cave. In the first 10 minutes of the game, she must find a way to set herself free and find a way out of the cave by outrunning and skipping huge gaps. The first few phases of the game involve "quick time events" where players are asked to press buttons quickly or move the analog stick in a given direction within a given time. After almost an hour of finishing simple tasks and mastering bow and pistol skills, the gameplay's tasks then escalate significantly.
Like the previous game editions, there are numerous fight scenes, obstacles and characters to interact with. Overall, it seems to be better than the previous games; however, it still has its own technology hurdles especially with the multiplayer. Even so, the "Definitive Edition" includes a few more multiplayer options weapons and characters to use that were not included in the 2013 game edition.
Aside from the few additives, it also includes digital versions of the Dark Horse comic, Final Hours developer videos and a Brady Games mini-art book.
