An eighth grade student in Maine's iPhone exploded when she sat in a chair with the gadget in her pocket on Friday.
The unidentified female student told her teacher her pants were on fire after she sat and heard a pop, according to Middle School of the Kennebunks principal Jeffrey Rodman, who spoke with the New York Daily News on Saturday.
The girl's classmates quickly went into action - all boys waited outside while a female teacher entered the room. The girl ran into a corner and tore off her pants. Rodman told the Daily News that the phone tumbled out of her pocket as she hit the ground, rolling around to stop the flames on her skin.
Her pants were burned in multiple spots, but the girl didn't sustain any life-threatening injuries. She was transferred to a nearby medical facility where she received treatment for her minor burns, and will reportedly go back to class on Monday.
"We definitely avoided something that could have been a lot worse," Rodman told the Daily News. "We're very grateful the girl is OK and the quick response from the students and the staff minimized what potentially could have caused a lot more damage."
