The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Spoilers: Tyler and Caroline May Both Have Hard Times Ahead; Katherine's Possesion of Elena's Body Was Only the Beginning [WATCH]

As expected, "The Vampire Diaries" 100th episode featured the return of many characters to mark the series' milestone. However, the return of one character in particular could stir things up going forward - Tyler. The young Mr. Lockwood, returned home to Mystic falls as, according to Rebekah, a parting gift to Matt. However, according to EOnline, his return home won't mean happiness in the near future.

"He's going to struggle," show creator Julie Plec said according to EOnline. "He's back, his revenge attempt failed, he doesn't really know what he's supposed to be doing with himself.

"He's not in college, he split with Caroline, Matt Donovan is living in his house. [Laughs] So it's a journey for him to find his way."

When Tyler walked into the Salvatore home, it was hard not to see the terrified/embarrassed look on Caroline's face. She knew what she just did with Klaus and seeing her ex-boyfriend come back made things really awkward. Plec recently previewed to TVLine.com what Tyler's return will do to Caroline.

"What should be a joyful occurrence for everybody, which is Tyler returning safe and sound, has the world's most awkward timing for Caroline," Plecs told TVLine. "She's going to have to deal with the fallout of the decision she made to give in to her feelings for Klaus."

According to the promo for tomorrow's episode, it seems as if Katherine's abduction of Elena's body was just Step #1 of her and Nadia's plan. The second step? Eradicate Elena from her own body, leaving Katherine as the only person living inside.

It appears Nadia and Mia, her traveler companion responsible for helping Katherine take Elena's body, still need Katherine's dead corpse to finish their plan. If you recall, Katherine's body is still at the Salvatore house - and the Salvatores aren't really ready to hand the body over to Nadia. (Maybe it didn't take that long for them to figure out Nadia's plan?)

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW. You can watch the preview below.
