Northern California police have taken an elementary teacher into custody, after she reportedly brought food laced with marijuana to an employee potluck dinner.
47-year-old Teresa Gilmete Badger, who teaches at Matthew Turner Elementary School in Benicia, Calif. was arrested on Friday, CNN reported. She's been charged with suspicion of poisoning, following an investigation that took six weeks. Benicia Police Department Lt. Frank Hartig told CNN that the teacher reportedly brought laced food to a late-night event with fellow staff and teachers.
According to an official statement released by law enforcement officials, some attendees started feeling funny after eating food at the party, which was held in November 2013.
"One of the partygoers was rushed to the hospital with severe reactions; she was hospitalized," Hartig told KPIX. "The very next morning, another partygoer was taken to the hospital, because she continued to feel like she was under the influence of something."
Tests for THC, the main chemical in marijuana, came back positive for at least one of the women.
Police reported that a 15-year-old girl also felt unwell after eating leftovers somebody had brought home from the party.
Badger "allegedly confessed her involvement to individuals who were also in attendance at the party," police told CNN.
Her bail was set at $15,000. She was arrested on Friday, and is currently in Solano County Jail in Fairfiel, Calif. according to a report by CNN.
