George Zimmerman is currently locked in a dispute with the Associated Press, which has claimed that the Sanford, Fla. resident's latest painting of prosecutor Angela Corey is a direct copy of an AP photo.
According to a report by the news agency, AP officials have told Zimmerman to stop the sale of his painting immediately.
The picture depicts Corey holding her thumb and pointer finger closely together. In Zimmerman's painting, a caption that reads "I have this much respect for the American judicial system," is added in all caps in the upper right-hand corner.
The Associated Press wrote in a letter that Zimmerman took the image straight from an AP photo taken during a news conference in April of 2012 - the day that she charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder. The letter was sent to attorney Jayne Weintraub, who has been representing the acquitted gunman. Although Weintraub told AP she doesn't represent Zimmerman any longer, she agreed to send the notification his way.
"George Zimmerman clearly directly copied an AP photo to create his painting of Florida State Attorney Angela Corey," spokesperson for the Associated Press Paul Colford wrote in an official release.
Zimmerman appeared to respond to the allegations on Twitter Friday night.
"No worries AP, I'll just take whatever U sue me for off your tab when I'm done suing you :-) Or...I could put out how much U offered me 2," Zimmerman posted.
When asked for an explanation, spokesperson Colford said, "We don't know what he's talking about."
Zimmerman previously sold a painting on eBay for $100,099.99.
Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder charges after he shot and killed unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
