French Magazines Claim President Francois Hollande Plans To Separate From Valérie Trierweiler

Newly released reports indicate French President Francois Hollande was seeking to end his relationship with his partner of many years Valérie Trierweiler after Closure magazine published photos and stories claiming an affair between him and French actress Julie Gayet, The Telegraph reported.

Left-leaning magazine Le Nouvel Observateur said sources close to Hollande reported he had plans to break up with Trierweiler and have her sign a joint announcement of their separation a day after Closure released the stories and pictures of the alleged affair, according to The Telegraph.

His plans were interrupted when Trierweiler needed to be hospitalized shortly after the story was published,The Telegraph reported.

Another French magazine, Le Point, said the first lady woke up Friday morning and "took one pill too many" landing her at Paris's Pitie-Salpetriere hospital where she is being treated and is resting, according to The Telegraph.

According to Le Nouvel Observateur the "secret affair" between Hollande and Gayet "had been an open secret for months," The Telegraph reported. In August, reports surfaced that Hollande travelled to his power base of Corrèze where Gayet was spending her vacation while Trierweiler went to Greece alone.

Trierweiler's employer, Paris Match, released an article saying the first lady tried to "keep the flame" alive between her and the President, but the Presidency pressures and strains had distanced the couple.
