A Father who was "frustrated" with his 2-year-old son threw him from the second floor balcony of a Florida motel on Tuesday, police said.
Juan Pablo Maradiaga, 41, tossed his little boy and then himself from the balcony of the Budget Inn located in Kissimmee, WESH TV reported. The child was found alive and taken to Orlando's Arnold Palmer Hospital. The dad was arrested.
A witness called 911 when he saw Maradiaga and a young boy lying on the ground in the pre-dawn hours.
"I have a baby and a young man that have landed on the ground and they're out," the caller said, according to WESH TV. "I just pulled up in the parking lot and I saw them lying there unconscious."
According to police, Maradiaga reeked of alcohol when he was found. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he's in stable condition. Police arrested and charged Maradiaga with attempted murder. Surveillance cameras captured Maradiaga leaving a room at the motel. He then threw his son over the 12-foot high railing before he leaned over and jumped too, WESH TV reported.
Police said Maradiaga confessed he was frustrated with his son. The 2-year-old's mother, who was working during the incident, said Maradiaga called and said he was annoyed and wanted her to come home. The mother was unable to leave work, and half-an-hour after the call her son was thrown from the motel, WESH TV reported.
The toddler suffered a fractured right arm and orbital, along with a bump on his head and abdominal injuries. He's expected to recover.
"My baby is fine. Thank God," Rosa Fabian, the boy's mother, told WESH TV. "A miracle baby."
Fabian said a baby sister usually watches her son, but the boy's father wanted to watch him Monday, WESH TV reported. According to court records, Maradiaga was previously investigated for suspected domestic violence in 2010.
This is not the first time in recent months a parent has thrown their child from a building. In December 2013, a father and his 3-year-old son died when he threw them both from a 52-story Manhattan building.
