Partner Valeri Trierweiler Admitted to Hospital after French President’s Alleged Affair with Actress

Francois Hollande's partner and the 'first lady' of France, Valérie Trierweiler, was admitted to hospital after reports of French president's alleged affair with actress Julie Gayet surfaced.

Trierweiler was taken to the hospital for "rest and a few tests," Friday after the French magazine, 'Closer,' published a seven-page report claiming Hollande was in a relationship with Gayet. The magazine also released photos that they claimed to be of the president and the actress meeting secretly.

Patrice Biancone, chief of Treiweiler's staff said that the first lady was expected to be discharged from the hospital on Monday, reported the Associated Press.

An unidentified Élysée official told French daily 'Le Monde' that Trierweiler was suffering a "severe case of the blues," reported The Guardian. However, no further details were released.

Hollande threatened to sue 'Closer' for invasion of his privacy but didnt deny the affair. The president, who has never married, is known for his 23-year relationship with French Socialist presidential candidate Segolene Royal. He has four children with her.

During her appearance on France2's news programme, Royal dodged the question of the Hollande-Gayet affair saying that people "should turn the page and get back to work," reported The Guardian. Stéphane Le Foll, France's minister of agriculture and also a close associate of Hollande, said at a press conference that he would not comment on the president's relationship with Gayet.

The newspaper further reported that rumors have it that Hollande and Treirweiler were staying separately after the 59-year-old president moved out of Trierweiler's apartment in the 15th arrondissement.

Meanwhile, Gayet, the 41-year-old French actress reportedly filed a complaint for violation of privacy last March after rumors of her relationship with Hollande surfaced. Mother of two, Gayet, has appeared in over 50 films. She was also seen in Hollande's 2012 election ad campaigns.

The Associated Press reported that Hollande is the most unpopular president of France. His failure to revive the economy has led to only 23 percent of the French population approving his performance.
