Jerry Seinfeld is famous for many things. He's an accomplished stand-up comedian, he's responsible for one of the most influential sitcoms on television with his self-titled NBC hit "Seinfeld." However, few people know Jerry Seinfeld for being famous as one of the biggest Superman fans on the planet.
The comedian Seinfeld participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Monday to answer any and all questions that fans might have for him. Inevitably, one savvy fan asked the comedian to share his thoughts on Zack Snyder's interpretation on the "Man of Steel" film.
***Spoiler Alert***
"I was so happy that they made another Superman movie!" Seinfeld writes. "I'm really reluctant to be critical of it in any way. But I thought the glossing over of the figuring out a secret identity and why he felt he needed one was a huge missed opportunity for that character, and one of the most interesting things about Superman is the whole secret identity. So to me it was too much action / violence and not enough character study."
Seinfeld's criticism isn't new. It echoes that of many Superman fans and critics alike. Many feel the film had too much hard-to-follow action, which didn't give the character the emotional depth he deserved.
Indeed the hero only became his alter ego, Clark Kent, bustling big-city reporter, in the last few shots of the movie. There was only a bit of voice over to explain why. In other words, if Snyder plans to create a franchise off of this super hero, he hasn't given himself much to work with other than that his hero can be put through a train station and brush some dust off his shoulder to be fine once again.
