A Piper airplane managed to successfully carry out an emergency landing on New York City's Major Deegan Expressway, Saturday.
The small plane touched down at about 3:20 p.m. on the north-bound side of the highway, close to the E. 233 Street exit in the Bronx, the New York Daily News reported local traffic stations as saying.
The New York City Fire Department stated that four people were aboard, including the pilot. Three sustained injuries after the white and blue plane crashed near a snowy patch dotted with bare trees.
One woman on the plane was said to have sustained non-life-threatening head injuries.
A first responder reporting from the ground said that the plane hadn't broken into pieces.
"It's upright...looks to be a solid landing," the Daily News reported the citizen as saying.
According to the Associated Press, the highway had been closed to make way for emergency response officials and vehicles.
Authorities are still unsure why the plane was forced to land on the expressway.
