Body Found at Site of Minnesota Building Explosion: Remains of One Discovered Beneath Rubble of Charred Apartment

Minneapolis police found a body beneath the burnt remains of a multi-story apartment building that exploded and was severely burned two days after the blast.

Firefighters on Friday combed through the rubble of the building that exploded, then burst into flames on Wednesday. The unidentified person's remains were found while cleanup crews were removing wreckage, CNN reported. The body was then transported to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, according to officials from the Minneapolis Fire Department.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation," a statement from fire authorities obtained by CNN read. "While a gas leak could be one potential cause, it could be weeks until a cause is determined and may ultimately be undetermined."

14 people were injured by the explosion.

Witnesses called Minneapolis authorities with reports of a blast and visible flames in a three-story building at around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday. The 14 victims who were injured - some critically - were found strewn about on the ground, indicating to authorities that they could have fallen from three floors above.

"It's not clear whether people were pushed out of the building from the explosion, or whether they fell or jumped out of windows to escape," Hennepin County Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert Ball told the Associated Press shortly after officials were sent to the scene of the explosion.

The 14 injured residents were reportedly in stable condition as of Friday morning.
