Doe B Shooting Update: Jason McWilliams Arrested in Connection to Fatal Shooting that Killed Rapper, Troy University Student

A man has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of rapper Doe B and a 21-year-old bystander at an Alabama nightclub. Six other people were injured. According to Fox 411, Jason Quan McWilliams, 25, turned himself into Montgomery police Sunday evening. McWilliams was charged with two counts of murder and is being held without bond.

Early Saturday (Dec. 28) morning Doe B, real name Glenn Thomas, and 21-year-old Kimberle Johnson were fatally shot at the Centennial Bar and Grill. Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange shut the club down following the shooting saying in a statement that "it is not a matter of 'if' but 'when' the next tragic incident occurs at this business."

According to Montgomery media reports, there was a shooting at the club last year. At the time it was called the Rose Supper Club but changed its name after the incident. A statement from Montgomery police said Saturday's shooting stemmed from a dispute involving Doe B.

"The circumstances surrounding the shooting were initially unknown, but further investigation indicates that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between McWilliams and Thomas," the news release said.

Deneka Bullock, 21, and Lea Epps, 21, both from Montgomery planned a vigil outside the club to honor Doe B and Johnson and to also address gun violence in the community.

"It's time for us as a society, we have to stop leaving it to our elders to want change, we have to want it for ourselves," The Montgomery Advertiser quoted Epps as saying. "We have to stop putting down our books and picking up guns. We are losing a lot of young people, very young. And I think that it's time that we just stop the violence now."

20-year-old Clarence Young, who was wounded in his right shoulder at the club, attended the candlelight vigil. He told reporters that he knew Johnson from high school and was at the Centennial Bar and Grill that night to celebrate a friend's birthday.

"It sounded like it was from just one gun," he told The Montgomery Advertiser. "There were a lot of people in the club. I heard the first couple of shots and felt the blow."
