Two San Antonio Residents Charged With Capital Murder in Case of Deceased Police Officer Robert Deckard

Two suspects have been charged in the murder case of San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard.

Capital murder charges were filed against 28-year-old Jenevive Ramos and 32-year-old Shawn Puente on Friday, according to Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward, who spoke with local news station KENS5.

SAPD officer Robert Deckard was fatally shot in the head after engaging in a high-speed chase with suspected robbers earlier in December. His passing was confirmed Friday morning, according to a tweet written by San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

"With great sorrow we have received word from the Deckard family that Bobby passed away this morning," he wrote online. "Again, they appreciate all the prayers and support they have received over the past several days. Thank you for all the support you have shown Bobby and his family."

KENS5 reported that Officer Decker died at 9:53 a.m. at San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he received treatment for his gunshot wounds.

Chief McManus said he was "stunned and angered" at the passing of Officer Deckard, while Congressman Pete Gallego offered similar sentiments.

"Bobby Deckard was more than a police officer; he was a husband, a father and member of the community. An assault on any of us is an assault on all of us," Gallego told KENS5. "My prayers go out to his family, friends, colleagues and all who mourn his passing. May justice prevail in this case."

A blood drive has been organized in honor of Deckard, scheduled for Dec. 23.

SAPD and the San Antonio Military Medical Center will co-host the event at Fort Sam Houston from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
