Florida Man Tries to Trade Alligator for 12-Pack of Beer (VIDEO)

A Florida man caught a live alligator, then went to a convenience store to barter the animal for a 12-pack of beer.

64-year-old Fernando Caignet Aguilera was caught on tape in Miami's Santa Ana Market last week holding a 4-foot-long gator, offering the animal in exchange for some brew.

"In my mind, I was trying to get some beer because I didn't have no money," Aguilera, who is reportedly homeless, told CBS Miami. "So I said, let me try the alligator."

He told the local news station that he'd found the animal at a nearby park.

"I just picked it up...I seen it here in the grass and I tied it up."

Aguilera said that he wasn't afraid of picking up the alligator, nor was he aware that transporting the animal was illegal.

According to police in the Miami neighborhood of Allapattah, it is - Aguilera received a citation for illegally catching, possessing and trying to sell the animal, the New York Daily News reported.

"This is absolutely bizarre," Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson Jorge Pino said to WTVJ-TV.

According to video footage, the clerk at the convenience store turned down Aguilera's critter offer, so the 64-year-old turned to a few patrons in hopes of sealing the deal.

"I wanted a Corona," he shrugged.

Law enforcement reportedly arrived at the convenience store after employees called the cops. The animal has been released into the wild, the Daily News reported.
