The "Hot in Herre" rapper Nelly was detained at a West Texas border checkpoint after law enforcement officials found heroin, marijuana and a loaded gun on his tour bus.
In a search during the routine stop at a Border Patrol checkpoint in West Texas, which is known for arresting many celebrities for drug possession, the authorities found 0.64 ounces of heroin distributed among 36 small plastic bags, more than 10 pounds of weed and a loaded .45-caliber pistol.
One of his tour members, Brian Keith Jones, was arrested after he took responsibility of bringing guns and the illegal substances on the board of the tour bus.
"It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest," Nelly said in a statement. "Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board."
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Hudspeth County sheriff confirmed the incident and the arrest and said the search was made at a Border Patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas, about 90 miles east of El Paso when a drug-sniffing dog detected the presence of banned substance in the bus.
"The agent requested all seven occupants out of the bus and conducted an inspection of the vehicle," spokesman Rusty Fleming told Reuters.
Fleming also confirmed that all the occupants of the bus were read their Miranda rights before Jones was arrested. Nelly and the other members on the bus were later released.
The Sierra Blanca checkpoint is known for its celebrity drug bust where singers Fiona Apple and Willie Nelson, actor Armie Hammer, and rapper Snoop Dogg were earlier detained for possession of controlled substances.
