An Ohio police chief took to Facebook to slam Kanye West in an open letter after the rapper said in an interview that his career is just as dangerous as being a police officer or a soldier at war. A lot of people found the comment to be offensive and egotistical including David Oliver, police chief at the Brimfield Police Department.
The 45-year-old chief is known for his sarcastic Facebook posts which are usually aimed at criminals but this time he took aim at the 36-year-old "Black Skinhead" rapper, the Daily Mail reports.
"Dear Kanye West," Oliver began. "I am honored to be writing such an important star. I am a mere Internet sensation. I'm not sure I am worthy to address you, although the Huffington Post did say I was "Humorous and Insanely Popular." I don't pay much attention to those things. Anyway, please excuse my interference in your life for a quick second."
Oliver said he heard about West's interview in which the rapper compared taking the stage every night to putting his life on the line like a cop and soldier does. West was doing an interview with SaturdayNightOut.com radio station when he made the remarks.
"Like, I'm just giving of my body on stage, I'm putting my life at risk, literally," West told the host.
He said the most dangerous part of his concerts is when he has to stand on top of a mountain set to perform "Coldest Winter" and "Can't Tell Me Nothing."
"Like that mountain goes really, really high. And if I slipped... You never know. And I think about it. I think about my family and I'm like, wow this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something," he said.
Oliver continued his letter sarcastically thanking the rapper for "putting your life in the line for all of us every day."
"I know that being a rapper is tough work," the police chief said. "I have tried to rap, and it is very difficult to keep up with the pulse of the rhyme flow. Most people don't consider... if you rap really fast, without a chance to inhale, you could pass out and hit your head."
"You sire, are as misguided as they come," he continued. "I do have a suggestion for you... since you are accustomed to danger, from your life as an international rapper. I am strongly encouraging you immediately abandon your career as a super star and join the military. When the Taliban starts shooting at you, perhaps you could stand up and let the words flow. I'm sure they would drop weapons and surrender. You could quite possible end all wars."
He concluded the letter by telling West he should probably realize that his job as a rapper is to simply entertain and to never compare his rapping career to the jobs of police officers and soldiers "who are always in harm's way."
