The Dallas Cowboys have needed a running back for quite some time, and that is largely due to the fact that Lance Dunbar has been injured so severely that playing in the early stages of the 2016 NFL regular season seemed like a stretch. The speedy pass-catching threat has been rehabbing ever since tearing both his MCL and ACL during the 2015 regular season. This did not deter interested teams from sniffing around Dunbar earlier on in free agency, but he felt that it was in his best interest to stay with the Cowboys.

"Yeah, of course. They gave me an opportunity to play football and these guys really understand my body, how I healed and just my personality," Dunbar said. "What I'm going through right now, it's really hard to switch teams. People don't know who you are; they don't know how you healed. This is about Dallas knowing my history. I felt like it was probably the safest move for me."

"I feel fine," he added. "Just taking it slow and doing whatever they tell me to do, not trying to do too much, just get better today and if I get better today I'll be better tomorrow. That's been my process my whole career. I'm up for the challenge. It's going to be fun. I'm not going to let this stop me from doing what I love."

Dunbar's statements seem to sync with how Dallas feels about one of their most surprising players. The Dallas Cowboys were treated to an unexpected surprise when Dunbar emerged as the primary option for this offense after star wide receiver Dez Bryant went down with injury.

Dunbar seemingly moved the ball up field all by himself regardless of who was at quarterback, and he was the only player to actually see decent production at that time. As soon as Dunbar went down with his season-ending injury, the Cowboys seemingly lost their remaining spark, as well as one of their most reliable playmakers, so it is not shocking to see Dallas bring him back.

This franchise was able to add former Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris to increase the depth at the running back position. The Cowboys are also likely to add a running back in the 2016 NFL Draft, so it is likely that any contribution that Dunbar makes will be seen as a bonus.
