Just after the reveal that the supposed "Fallout 4" teaser website countdown was, in fact, a gigantic hoax, leaked information brings hope back to fans of the franchise confirming that "Fallout 4" is actually real and set in Massachusetts.
The news comes from leaks discovered by Kotaku, which cites a source that leaked documents from a casting call for voice actors for a project that was code-named "Institute." The casting documents, which the site has been able to confirm are real, include scripts, character descriptions and other details about the next Fallout game.
While "Fallout" is never used in the postings, IGN notes that the game contains details that clearly indicate that the game in question is the fourth installment of Fallout. For example, a page of the script from the beginning starts with "War. War never changes." This is perhaps the most iconic line from the Fallout series. It discusses the main character's great great-grandfather, who served in the army in 1945. Realizing that the bombs dropped to end World War II would be a harbinger of absolute destruction and atomic warfare. The narrator even expresses surprise that it took until the 21st century for the world to end in nuclear fire, according to IGN.
Another document references the Commonwealth Minutemen. In Fallout lore, the Commonwealth is the post-apocalyptic title given to the area that used to be Massachusetts, as well as some of the greater New England area.
IGN speculates that "Fallout 4" will be published by Bethesda, since that company owns the exclusive rights to the game. However, the question remains, who will develop the game? The likely candidate is the same developer behind "Fallout 3" Bethesda Game Sudios, best known for the Elder Scrolls series including the latest title "Skyrim."
