Electronic Arts, recently labeled as the worst company in the United States, announced that it will be getting rid of its three biggest Facebook games on Monday.
According to EA.com “The Sims Social”, “Sim City,” and “Pet Society”, will no longer be available.
“After millions of people initially logged in to play these games, the number of players and amount of activity has fallen off,” EA said in a statement on its website. “For people who have seen other recent shutdowns of social games, perhaps this is not surprising.”
The electronic gaming company has been steadily decreasing the amount of games it provides online service for including “Battlefield 3: Aftershock” for the iPad, “Army of Two” for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and “Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes:” for PC.
Despite recent shutdowns, EA assured customers that it will be continuing other successful Facebook games.
“EA will continue to deliver popular titles for Facebook, most notably games from PopCap, including Bejeweled Blitz, Solitaire Blitz and the recently-announced Plants vs. Zombies Adventures.”
2013 marks the second year that EA has received The Consumerist's 'Worst Company in America' award. Peter Moore, EA’s Chief Operating Officer, guaranteed better products for consumers in the future.
"We can do better," he said. “We will do better. The tallest trees catch the most wind. At EA we remain proud and unbowed."
He also pointed out that since EA’s consumers are always on the Internet the gaming company received more votes.
"This year's contest started in March with EA outpolling a company which organizers contend is conspiring to corner the world market on mid-priced beer, and (gulp) allegedly waters down its product," Moore said. "That debate takes place in bars - our audience lives on the Internet. So no surprise that we drew more votes there."
The three games will lose online support on June 14.
