California Man Called 'Sexual Cyber Terrorist' Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison

A judge sentenced a California man referred to as a "sexual cyber terrorist" to five years in federal prison on Monday.

Karen (Gary) Kazaryan, from Glendale, victimized over 350 women when he hacked into their email, Facebook and Skype accounts and searched for naked pictures.

Kazaryan, 27, then forced the women to strip for him by telling them he would release the naked photo's he found of them on the Internet, the Los Angeles Daily News reported. Prosecutors said Kazaryan barred his victims from accessing their accounts by changing the passwords. Kazaryan also pretended to be the friends of the women so they would trust him and send more naked photos, KTLA5 reported.

Prosecutors say Kazaryan obtained naked pictures anyway he could, at any expense.

"His victims were devastated and felt like they had been raped," prosecutors said in a sentencing memorandum, KTLA5 reported. "They continue to be thoroughly traumatized by his criminal conduct."

One of Kazaryan's victims, who knew him from high school, said in a statement "It has made it difficult to trust anyone I meet when someone I know could do something so abominable," the Los Angeles Daily News reported.

Kazaryan's victims were "forced to perform in a degrading manner under the threat of exposure," said U.S. District Judge George H. King, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.

During the trial Kazaryan's defense attorney, Alex Kessel, look to imply that Kazaryan's victims didn't mind his actions as much as prosecutors say. But the judge said the tone of the conversations between Kazaryan and the women were "quite threatening," the Los Angeles Daily News reported.

Kazaryan admitted to his online actions, saying in a letter to the judge what he did was "immature and mindless." He also said his depression and marijuana use made him do what he did.

"The lines between digital life and reality were blurred and out of control for me," said Kazaryan, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
