Heading into the season, Thursday's game looked like a clash of two powerhouses. It's been anything but this season for both teams. New York (3-13) have lost nine straight games. Carmelo Anthony called his team a "laughingstock," and coach Mike Woodson's job security is now a constant source of speculation.

Tyson Chandler's leg injury, J.R. Smith's lack of production and the restricted-minutes placed on both Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin haven't made things easier for the Knicks.

Brooklyn, expected to be a contender in the Eastern Conference with their big-name summer acquisitions, haven't fared much better. The Nets (5-13) have struggled to find chemistry amid a rash of injuries.

"You've got two teams that expectations were high coming into the season and we've both have had our struggles," Woodson told the Associated Press. "But again, if they're looking at it like we're looking at it, nobody's running away with the division and I still think our team can win the division."

Nets coach Jason Kidd said both teams "stink." Anthony echoed the ex-Knick's assessment.

"We are the laughingstock of the league right now. It's nothing to hide. We are," said Anthony. "So that's why it is a big game for us.

"Do I like being laughed at? Hell no, I don't like that feeling. But about it being (televised on) TNT, about them guys mocking us, they've got to do their job. We want to win, that's the only thing that I'm focusing on."
