Costco Apologizes for Bibles 'Mislabeled' as Fiction After Pastor Posts Outraged Tweet (SEE IT)

A southern California Costco has issued a formal apology after a pastor found that the superstore was labeling their stock of Bibles as fiction.

Pastor of Simi Valley's Discovery Church Caleb Kaltenbach said he found the Bibles while he was shopping for a gift at a Costco in the same city. He tweeted the picture on Friday with a caption, "Costco has Bibles for sale under the genre of FICTION Hmmmm..."

Members of his congregation were outraged by Costco's decision to tack on price stickers with a fiction label.

"I was completely offended," Shellie Dungan told KTLA. "It's wrong, and I believe that the Bible is real."

The tweet soon went viral online, putting Kaltenbach on both local and national television news spots, including Fox News' segment called "50 Shades of Fiction?"

Although Kaltenbach's move did stir up some noise, he said overall, the issue has opened new discussion on the Bible.

"It's caused a lot of controversy, it's caused a lot of conversation, which I think conversation is good," he told KCBS.

Costco released a statement saying that its distributor had stuck incorrect labels on a "small percentage" of Bibles before they were shipped to the store, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"However, we take responsibility and should have called the mistake," Costco said. "We are correcting this with them for future distribution. We greatly apologize for the error."
