A baby giraffe calf was born on Jan. 9 at the Indianapolis Zoo in Indianapolis, Ind., announced The Indianapolis Zoo's website, and his adorable face has stolen our hearts.

The zoo put out a press release to spread the happy news. The baby was born to Takasa, an 18-year-old giraffe. He was born healthy, and the "spirited newcomer stood up and began nursing soon after birth", said the release, according to WHIO. Both calf and mom are doing well after the birth, reported Wish TV.

The zoo staff will come up with a few options for names that match the giraffe's sub-Saharan African heritage and its personality, and a poll will be posted on the zoo's Facebook page to let the public decide, said Carla Knapp, a Zoo Spokesperson, according to WHIO.

"The calf is also curious and adventurous, exploring his surroundings though never venturing too far from his watchful mom," said the release on the Zoo's website.

The calf is a Reticulated Giraffe, and his species is native to Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. This species of giraffe have light brown, geometric looking spots instead of the darker blotches that distinguish the Masai species of giraffe.

The zoo is thrilled about the new arrival, and he will be showcased in the spring. For now, he'll be kept in a temperature-regulated area with his mom to ensure that the next few months of his life go well, reported WHIO. Come visit him in the spring!
