Whoopi Goldberg joined the conversation around the proposed Oscars boycott. The co-host of ABC's hit daytime talk show "The View" went on an impassioned rant and stressed that boycotting the Oscars won't solve the issue of the lack of ethnic diversity in Hollywood, Us Weekly reported.

After the nominees were announced for the 2016 Academy Awards (or Oscars), fans began to point out that no people of color were nominated for major awards, and celebrities took notice. Actress Jada Pinkett Smith and film director Spike Lee were the first to speak out and suggest a boycott of the awards ceremony, as previously reported by HNGN.

But Goldberg, who is an Academy Award-winning actress herself for her role in the 1990 film "Ghost," pointed out that boycotting the ceremony would be boycotting the host, comedian Chris Rock.

"Boycotting doesn't work, and it's also a slap in the face of Chris Rock. and I find that also wrong," the 60-year-old actress said during the segment. "So I'm not gonna boycott, but I'm gonna continue to b---- as I have all-year round because I'm tired of seeing movies where no one is represented except a bit of the population."

When a co-host brought up the fact that boycotting did work in 1955 during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, when Rosa Parks historically refused to move to the back of the bus, Goldberg said a boycott of the film industry should start with box office sales.

"You wanna boycott something? Don't go see the movies that don't have your representation," Goldberg said. "That's the boycott you want, anything else is on us."
