"Thor 2: The Dark World" had its red carpet premiere and the event was packed with heavy hitters in the Marvel universe. Not the least impressive person on the guest list was Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who had a few things to say about his upcoming film as well as his minor involvement with "Thor 2: The Dark World."
The firs thing the director discussed with Crave Online was the character Thanos, who is most known in pop-culture for his appearance during the first post-credits tag for "The Avengers."
"Thanos is a character in our movie... In my movie, Ronan works for Thanos, and Ronan is the main bad guy in our film," Gunn said. We know that in Guardians of the Galaxy," Ronan is played by Lee Pace and that Thanos was played by Damion Poitier in the post-Avengers tease. However, there is no guarantee that that will be the case in Gunn's depiction of the Marvel super villain.
Gunn also went into detail about the level of special effects in the film and said that, like in his previous films, he'll be using a lot of practical effects to bring his sci-fi story to life, according to IGN.
"We have a prison that is 350,000 pounds of steel," he said. "Our sets are enormous. Anybody who knows me knows I love the mix of practical and CGI effects... I can't wait for people to see it, because it's astonishingly beautiful."
He also dropped a small mini-spoiler for the post-credits scene featured at the end of Thor 2. Marvel is famous for foreshadowing upcoming films in the post-credits sequences of its films, Thor 2 will be no exception.
A few weeks ago it was reported that Gunn had directed a mid-credits sequence for the end of Thor: the Dark World that would give fans a glimpse of what they need to know going into Guardians of the Galaxy. Now Gunn has confirmed those rumors.
"Yeah, I did [direct that]. I had talked to Kevin [Feige] about it, and we had decided on the basics of what was going to happen... It was really quick, and it was late that we decided to put it in [Thor 2] -- I mean really late. It wasn't that long ago when we shot it."
Thor: The Dark world hits theaters on Nov. 8. Guardians of the Galaxy is slated for an August 1 launch.
