"Fifty Shades of Grey" could be close to casting their first A-list celebrity. According to several reports actress Katie Holmes is interested in playing Mrs. Robinson aka Elena Lincoln in the highly anticipated movie.

Sources told the National Enquirer that Holmes thinks she would be perfect for the role and hopes E.L. James and "Team 50" give her a chance.

"She's looking at this as the role of a lifetime for her," the source said. "It will shock a lot of people, but she thinks Hollywood will sit up and take notice. She knows she has to reinvent herself."

Since divorcing actor Tom Cruise in June, Holmes has been trying to get her acting career back on track. Landing the role of Elena would definitely thrust her back in the spotlight. The source even said that the actress has no problem going blonde for the part of Christian Grey's business partner and former lover.

Fans seem to be torn about this latest rumor. Some think the "Dawson's Creek" actress would be perfect while others feel it would be yet another miscast for the project.

"Katie Holmes as Mistress Elena in 50 Shades?? Can this movie get any worse," a fan tweeted.

"Katie Holmes to cast as Elena Lincoln a.k.a. Mrs. Robinson in Fifty Shades of Grey. Srsly?" another user posted.

"There are also reports that Katie Holmes will play Elena Lincoln. I don't know about this one, but let's just see how it goes," someone else commented.

In the book Mrs. Robinson is described as a well-groomed, tall and very sexy blonde. She is the lady that introduced Grey to the world of BDSM and taught him everything he knows. The CEO still keeps in touch with her and throughout the book readers learn that he will often confide in and seek advice from her about his relationship with Anastasia Steele.

However, Steele doesn't like Elena and gives her the nickname Mrs. Robinson. There's no word how true this latest rumor is but Holmes could be up against some stiff competition as Kim Cattrall and Charlize Theron have also been rumored for the role.

Cattrall expressed her interest in a 2012 interview saying that she has her "claws out" for the part.

Do you think Katie Holmes would make a good Mrs. Robinson?
