Twitter Adds Photo and Video Previews on Timeline

Twitter has added photo and video previews on its timeline implying that it has now gone visual on Tuesday.

Michael Sippey, Twitter's vice president of product and design, wrote in a blog post, "Starting today, timelines on Twitter will be more visual and more engaging: previews of Twitter photos and videos from Vine will be front and center in tweets. He added, "To see more of the photo or play the video, just tap."

Twitter, which initially allows its users to post a maximum of 140 characters, has now included photo and video clip previews to its timeline. Different from its original setting wherein "tweeters" need to click the link of the photo or clip first.

Though Twitter underwent changes in the past, this makeover has been the biggest so far since its grand makeover in 2011.

With these changes, the latest tweets will show up first and those with photos and clips uploaded in Twitter and Vine -- a video-creation service owned by Twitter -- will automatically show and play.

The changes to the social networking site appearance aim to address a concern from potential investors for the company's initial public offering. Robert Peck, an Internet analyst with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, told New York Times , "It was all text, for the most part. There was no multimedia. People thought Twitter was behind."

If users positively welcome these changes, the company is looking forward to including other types of links such as news, articles and webpages, or photos and clips from an outside source like YouTube.

Days ago, Twitter, announced on its going to sell 70 to 80.5 million shares to the public and these changes could not only attract public to buy shares, it could also help the company generate more revenue through selling more visual advertisements like what Facebook offered from brands like Lexus and Adidas.
