Don’t be surprised if you are in an elevator yet you’re suddenly smelling roses, bacon, or even corn soup. Chances are, there is someone who just received a text message. Yes, there is this new smartphone accessory called “Scentee” which can alert your nose for notifications.
iPhones and Android smartphones can have this new accessory which releases smells each time a new notification comes in.
Scentee is a Japanene product which comes in different scent cartridges that the user can set on his smartphone. Some of the scents to choose from are coconut, jasmine, apple, corn soup, rose, cinnamon roll, mint, and ylang ylang. Users will enjoy the scent each time a text, a Facebook comment, Twitter comment, a reminder, or even a new e-mail arrives.
Scentee is an accessory that can be plugged in the headphone socket that has LED light that users can modify through an app. It can also be used to be paired with your alarm clock so that you will be awakened with a coffee scent.
The gadget is already available in Amazon.com for $35 while each cartridge costs $5. Each cartridge lasts about 100 puffs so you will need to purchase another one. The company is also releasing a special scent on November 15 called “Korean BBQ Edition.”
According to Engadget, the product targets Japanese customers but plans to expand it to Americans although it is less likely that it is going to be a hit. It is also offering partnerships with several companies from the food and fragrance industries to serve as a sampler for customers or simply to get their signature scents as a cartridge option.
Scentee is also expanding its software capabilities. At the moment, the scent emission is limited to notifications from incoming text messages, social networking notifications, e-mails, games and alarms.
