Jawbone announced the release of its app for UP, a wristband that tracks movement and sleep, which will be available on Google's Android operating system smartphones for free, reports Tech Crunch news.
The UP wristband, which previously supported only iOS, is now making its way to Android users. The wristband is available in European Apple Stores for $129 and will be introduced in Asian and Australian markets in April. The UP app, however, can be downloaded for free from Google Play Store for Android users.
Vice President of product management and strategy for Jawbone, Travis Bogard, confirmed in a statement that along with expanding the UP community by including Android users, iOS app will also see some upgrades. "11 new languages for iOS, and product availability in more than 25 additional countries around the world," he said.
The flexible and strong wristband is designed to capture physical movements, moods, calories burnt throughout the day and tracks how much sleep and also determine the quality of the sleep throughout the night. Additional features also include a bar-code scanner, which keeps tabs on the nutrition value of the food consumed and also alerts a person to start moving when sitting for too long.
The functions of the Android UP app are similar to that of iOS app. Few similar features that adds value to the app include smart alarm, idle alert, progress reports and also an option to share the tracked data via Facebook and Twitter.
While iOS and Android users enjoy the Jawbone UP app and wristband, other operating systems such as Blackberry 10 or Windows Phone are not likely to get this service anytime soon.
