Those who have tried to post a status to Facebook on Monday morning have been experiencing difficulties and receiving the same error message. Some reports even indicate that the site is experiencing this issue globally.
When users attempted to post a status update on the popular social network on Monday morning, they received a message that read: "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes."
The problem bleeds into status updates, likes, comments and other things that are apparently not posting to the site. Users instead all receive the above message. It's unclear exactly how widespread the issue is and how long it has been going on or whether it's affecting just the website or the apps. However, people have reported that they are experiencing difficulties with the Facebook app for iPhone as well. According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, those who complained about problems with the iPhone app saw no error message but didn't see their status ever post.
Facebook didin't immediately respond to any requests from the press for comment so it is unclear if the company is working on the system outage at this point or not. These kinds of outages are uncommon but definitely not unheard of. Sites with major user use like Twitter and Facebook experiencing disruptions from time to time, often due to a service or a server being knocked offline.
According to Mashable, the error seems to be global. Those at the site report to have tried it from several different IP addresses from all over the globe and have received the same error message, meaning that this is a site-wide problem and not just localized to one area.
