Former MLB star David Justice defended himself in a Twitter rant on Tuesday after reports resurfaced that claimed he was physically abusive to his ex-wife, actress Halle Berry, Us Weekly reported. Justice attempted to clear his name in a series of tweets and explained why he chose to speak out on social media

"I'm not trying to be the voice of Halle's exes," Justice told Access Hollywood. "What I was trying to do is let everybody understand that I am in the community coaching kids from baseball to basketball to football. I'm trying to be a role model and I don't want these kids and my kids' friends reading [reports] and then everyone looking at me like, 'I didn't know coach did that to some woman.' I don't want parents going, 'I didn't know my kid's coach did that to some woman.'"

Justice spoke out on Twitter against reports that claimed one of Berry's exes had been physically abusive towards her, but didn't name an ex in particular. The former couple wed in 1992 and split five years later, and Justice seemingly bashed Berry for allowing media outlets to pin the blame on him and her other innocent exes in a series of now-deleted tweets.

He clarified his intentions and said that he never meant to bash Berry with those statements, and was just speaking out in order to clear his name. He returned to Twitter later on Tuesday to show his gratitude to Berry.

"I just want to thank Halle for finally squashing all of the rumors in the past, that I had physically abused her, causing the hearing loss," he wrote on Twitter.
