A Missouri couple accused of killing their spouses and children more than 30 years ago are in jail and awaiting extradition on charges, ABC News reports.
Authorities say there are "uncanny similarities" between the crimes, but they did not confirm if the couple plotted the alleged murders together.
"There have been agencies that have been looking at this quite seriously since 1974 and 1975," Laramie County District Attorney Scott Homar told ABC News. "But they are separate cases."
Alice Uden, 74, and Gerald Uden, 71, are currently facing first-degree murder charges. Alice was arrested on Sept. 26, and reportedly offered information about her husband's crime, which lead to Gerald's arrest a day later.
"The Fremont County Sheriff's Office in Wyoming was investigating the disappearance of Gerald Uden's ex-wife and her children when they learned that his current wife, Alice, may have been involved in the murder of her ex-husband in a nearby Wyoming county years earlier," an arrest affidavit said.
Alice allegedly murdered her husband at the time, 25-year-old Ronald Holtz, who disappeared in late 1974 or early 1975, and his remains were found in 40 feet down an abandoned mine in Laramie County in August, ABC reports.
"These people weren't on the run. The investigators knew where these people were at," Christian County Sheriff Joey Kyle told the Associated Press. "They just didn't have the evidence to bring them in. ... It wasn't like they were hid out all this time. They were untouchable."
An unamaed withness accused Alice of confessing to fatally shooting Holtz in the head, wrapping his body in blankets, placed it in a barrel and then dumped it into a mine shaft.
"[Alice's demeanor during the arrest] was consistent with an individual who appears to have acknowledged she's been caught," Kyle said.
