Uniontown Standoff: Man Found Dead In Barricaded Home

A Uniontown man who barricaded himself a random home after firing shots at police was confirmed dead by authorities on Friday, WPXI reported.

The suspect was identified as Donald Ray Brown, although it is still unknown how he died.

State police officers in Pennsylvania surrounded the home after Brown allegedly shot at police and crashed his car earlier in the day. Officials said the incident began around 11:30 a.m. near Ohiopyle State Park when authorities began chasing a truck.

After the truck crashed into a house, the driver started shooting at police officers. A female suspect, Jessica Lynn Phillips, and a neighbor were immediately taken into custody by police, though the neighbor has been released, while Brown got away. After Phillips surrendered to authorities she was put in jail and held on $1 million bond.

While law enforcement quickly surrounded the house Brown broke in to, witnesses heard them say "She says you're a good guy. Please pick up the phone and talk to us," over a loudspeaker.

Nearby Laurel Highlands High School and two elementary schools were placed on lockdown and some streets were cordoned off. A spokesperson from the high school said most students were allowed to leave except for those who lived close to the home.

The owner of the home, Norma Sherlock, was out at a senior citizen event when Brown broke in.

"It was one of my neighbors who said, 'Someone just broke into your home, get back right away.' Well, what a time trying to get back in here," Sherlock said.

Katie Nairn, a clerk at a nearby dollar store, described her witness account.

"It was very nerve-wracking, and that was my first time working in the store," Nairn said. "We just locked down and we stocked the store, stayed away from the windows."
