Sony Entertainment CEO Andrew House has given a small hint at the price of PlayStation's upcoming virtual reality system, the PlayStation VR, in an interview.

In an interview with Bloomberg Business, House was hesitant to specify the exact price of the new head-mounted virtual reality system, but did say, "the unit will be priced as a new gaming platform," when it launches at an unconfirmed date in 2016.

Despite this new information, it's still unknown if this means the price will be akin to what it was when the PS4 was released two years ago, or what it costs now.

When the PlayStation 4 launched in the U.S. in Nov. 2013, it was first priced at $399 - putting early buyers back a pretty penny, reported Engadget. Currently, the PS4 costs about $349, but considering that the price recently dropped in Japan, it's possible that the price would drop even further.

If that move comes to pass, the PlayStation VR may be priced in the same range as the PS4 will post price drop.

The virtual reality device also requires a PS4 to run, so the overall cost for the full system will run buyers about $700.

PlayStation VR was first named Project Morpheus when it was announced at GDC 2014. Japanese publishers have expressed interest in the new system and have already started working on VR versions of their IPs like Danganronpa and Hatsune Miku. At launch there is likely to be at least 10 titles, including mech-fighting game Rigs, and possibly Final Fantasy XIV.
