Plot:

“Reign” is a creative origin story for the famed Mary Queen of Scots. The beautiful teenage Mary must marry the young Prince Francis, of France, in order to assure the alliance between France and Scotland. However, things get extremely complicated before any marriage can take place. The young prince Francis, although attracted to Mary, has an extremely wondering eye. Francis’ half brother Bash —who is he and Francis’ father’s favorite—also has feelings for Mary. Queen Catherine, wanting to know more about Mary asks her seer Nostradamus for advice. He tells her the young Scot will cost her son Francis his life. Now Catherine will do anything to save her son. Mary will soon learn that in this world of magic, trickery and sensuality, she and her four ladies in waiting—Kenna, Lola, Aylee and Greer—must be ready for anything

Preliminary Pro:

There is definitely a lot to go on here. The show has a great young cast and features two things The CW does extremely well—magic and young love. Something tells me fans who love shows such as “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” will fall in love with this show.

Preliminary Con:

This show is pretty much the PG-13 version of “Game of Thrones.” I don’t believe they will be competing, but if they are, Reign has a lot of catching up to do with far less characters and a much more narrow storyline.

Trailer:

“Reign” premieres October 17 at 9/8c on The CW.
