Fans will get a second chance to explore the adventures that occur in a pineapple under the sea. "SpongeBob Squarepants 2," the sequel to the 2005 film, will open on Feb. 13, 2015. Antonio Banderas will star as a pirate in upcoming sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be produced by Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Animation. The film is set to begin filming this month in Georgia, according to reports from Savannah Now. Officials involved with the film reportedly told Tybee Island representatives that Banderas would be playing the pirate role in the film, according to Diane Shleicher, Tybee's city manager. She said filming will take place on Tybee on Sept. 20 and in downtown Savannah on Oct. 9. The first SpongeBob film, which married animation with live-action story telling, was a popular success that raked in more than $140 million for the studio.
Fans of the series will be pleased to learn the cast will all be reprising their roles as the characters kids and adults have come to know and love including Sandy Cheeks, Patrick Star, Mr. Krabs, Squidward and, of course, SpongeBob Squarepants.
Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger bumpass, Clancy Brown and Carolyn Lawrence are all signed on to definitely voice their characters in the upcoming sequel to 2004's film, according to USA Today.
Below is an official teaser trailer for the upcoming film, which will be hitting theaters just in time for Valentines Day 2015. The bad news is, people will have to wait until 2015. The good news is, no one will have to figure out where to take your significant other on a date.
