New information from a Korean web portal Daum hints that Samsung is prepping up for the release of Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 in early 2014.
The file marked "No shizzle, Sherlock" reportedly outlines the plans of the Apple arch rival in introducing the second-gen smartwatch in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2014. The three-day event will be held in Las Vegas from Jan. 7 to 10, 2014. Unfortunately, it is not a public event but a showroom of upcoming technology products of different technology companies such as Samsung, Sony, Qualcomm, Intel, Panasonic, BlackBerry, Nvidia, and more. In 2013, there were 3,000 exhibitors which showcased their innovative products.
So what is to expect on the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2?
Well, while the first-gen would only work with a Galaxy Note 3, the good thing with Galaxy Gear 2 is that it can be paired up with a wider range of phones though the file didn’t mention which phones. This would be a considerable improvement since critics were not that happy when they found out the phone limitations of the first-gen which they called as Samsung’s way to boost sales of the Galaxy Note.
Meanwhile, CNet reports that Samsung is working on a software update which will make the Gear work with other phones such as the Galaxy S4. Another is that it is most likely to be compatible on Samsung smartphones only and not all Android devices.
Samsung Galaxy Gear will start selling in the U.S on Sept. 25 for $300—a price too high for a phone accessory. It will allow Galaxy Note 3 users to see notifications, use apps, and call out without touching their smartphones. Its 1.63-inch touchscreen is also equipped with a low-resolution camera so users can also use it to take photos. The smarthwatch will also have 70 pre-loaded apps including social networking apps.
