Things look grim for Gibbs in the first promo for "NCIS" season 13.

Picking up in the moments after his shooting, the NCIS special agent (Mark Harmon) is rushed into emergency surgery with the supremely confident Navy surgeon Dr. Taft (special guest Jon Cryer). As Gibbs starts crashing, Taft takes over.

"Time to dance Agent Gibbs, mind if I lead?" he asks.

While under, Gibbs will have to decide whether to fight for his life or walk toward the light with his late daughter Kelly.

Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) orders Tony (Michael Weatherly) to head back out with CIA Officer Joanna Teague (Mimi Rogers) to track down the leader of The Calling, a terrorist organization recruiting kids. "The best thing you can do for Gibbs now is your job," Vance commands.

But the "game's just begun" for the sinister Daniel Budd (Giles Matthey) who won't hesitate to blow up a few buildings or people to escape.
