A Slovakian mechanic is currently fighting for his life after his arm was chopped off by a propeller while he was performing repairs on an airplane's engine in Kosice, Slovakia on Monday. Upon investigation, the pilot of the aircraft, whose identity remains unknown, was found to have been drunk during the near-deadly incident.

Jan Fiala, the 52-year-old veteran mechanic, was performing engine repairs when the spinning blades of the plane severed his arm and mangled his face. He was immediately taken to the university hospital in Bratislava, Slovakia's capital, for treatment, according to The Daily Mail.

A spokesperson from the hospital described the mechanic's condition after he was transported to the hospital. "The man received devastating injuries to his arm and severe injuries to his face," the spokesperson said.

Due to the gravity of his injuries, Fiala has been in intensive care since he arrived at the hospital. He later regained consciousness and his condition has since stabilized.

A police investigation is currently underway, with a police spokesperson stating that authorities would be pursuing criminal prosecution against the pilot, reports 790 Talk Now.

The pilot, who is also a veteran, allegedly had a reading of 1.38 permille after taking a breath alcohol breath test. Thus, the pilot had enough alcohol in his body to limit his reflexes and reaction time.
