Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka is known for his fights in the WWE ring, but the wrestling legend is battling something far more concerning. His wife Carole Snuka confirmed that the WWE icon was diagnosed with stomach cancer in an interview with pro-wrestling journalist Bill Apter, Bleacher Report reported.

In a video chat interview, Carole told Apter that the family waited to make the announcement because they wanted to take the time to help Jimmy get well in private. After his diagnosis, the 72-year-old underwent a surgery in which doctors removed part of his stomach and his lymph nodes. Carole said doctors were able to remove the cancer during that surgery.

"The doctors said he did very well. They're very happy with the outcome. He still has a long road ahead of him, and the doctor says he's an amazingly strong man," Carole told Apter. "We all know how strong Jimmy is, and Jimmy can take a beating and he says he's ready for this fight. He also wants to let his fans know that he's not done yet."

Carole delivered the news after reading a statement from her husband about the passing of his good friend and former WWE partner "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Snuka and Piper were involved in a now-famous match where Piper hit Jimmy over the head with a coconut, according to What Culture. Snuka was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996 and has returned to the WWE in numerous appearances throughout his semi-retirement.

Snuka's daughter Tamina Snuka carries on her father's legacy in the WWE's female division, Divas. She currently wrestles in a tag team with fellow WWE Diva Naomi and NXT Diva Sasha Banks.
