While her former ex-Disney friend Miley Cyrus is cashing in on the current cultural obsession with it, singer and "X-Factor" judge Demi Lovato just wishes it would all disappear. Recently the singer took to Twitter to vent about her frustrations with the nation's love affair with "twerking."

While twerking originated long before Miley Cyrus was even born, most recently, the form of dirty dancing has become a pop culture meme, having rose to prominence in 2000 when the Ying Yang Twins released their debut single, "Whistle While You Twurk." Miley Cyrus has capitalized on the dance crazem though she's been criticized plenty for appropriating a culture that isn't hers and a dance she allegedly is using simply for shock value.

Did Cyrus's 2013 VMAs performance, which it seems no one can stop talking about, inspire Lovato's recent rant?

"Can the world stop talking about twerking please?," Lovato tweeted recently. She seemed to get a few unhappy responses in return, as she soon followed up with, "Btw - no shade thrown.. Don't even try to start that crap. Haha... the term twerking just needs to disappear like the word swag does too."

Some fans suggested that Lovato was taking a subtle shot at Miley Cyrus and her love affair with the term (Cyrus has used the word many times and in various formats while promoting her new music, including her single "We Can't Stop" and upcoming album "Bangerz"), as the ex-Disney princesses are no longer close friends. However, both have confirmed that they still care about and support each other, so perhaps Lovato wasn't making a dig at her pal's VMAs performance.

Not long after, a follower of Lovato's tweeted her: "There are different types of 'dancing' homegirl. Twerking. Swaggering. Waltzing. Slutdropping," seeming to defend the term, to which Lovato re-tweeted her with the response: "My point exactly!! Hahaha"

While we're not entirely sure what she meant in that particular exchange, one thing is for certain: don't use the word "twerking" around Demi Lovato! It annoys her to no end.

As for things that make her happy, Lovato recently appeared on "Live With Kelly and Michael" and shared how her recent charity trip to Kenya had changed her life.

"It was five days in someone else's community learning about their culture and helping them out in whatever way I can," she said, adding that the trip made her not want to go back to the U.S., even though some exciting things are happening for her back home.

This fall, Lovato will be starring on two FOX shows, including "The X-Factor," where she'll continue to spar with Simon Cowell, and "Glee," in which she is reportedly playing Naya Rivera (Santana)'s love interest and singing a few Beatles songs.
