Facebook Updates News Feed to Prioritize 'High-Quality and Most Interesting' Contents

Facebook announced on Friday that it has updated the algorithms for choosing contents that will appear in the News Feed again. This time, Facebook hopes to soothe businesses that have censured the social network for showing their updates to fewer fans by prioritizing "high-quality and most interesting" contents.

The social network site momentarily thinks that it has identified a solution to the dilemma with a new formula for featuring the “most interesting” updates from Facebook Pages in users’ News Feeds. Their goal is to formulate the best page content in front of the users who appreciates it the most.

Engineering manager for News Feed Ranking Varun Kacholia stated in an explanatory blog post that their latest update to the News Feed ranking algorithm will help guarantee that the original content people see from Pages they are linked to is the most appealing to them.

Feedbacks and comments were previously collected by Facebook from its members who participated in their survey on their likes and dislikes to develop a machine-learning system that integrates above a thousand factors to detect Page post quality.

The News Feed ranking algorithm’s improved version has been in trial with a small group of Facebook users who reportedly hid a few page stories, and also commented on, liked or shared page contents considerably greater than before. Facebook plans to roll out the changes to all users over the next few weeks.

The update will possibly encounter numerous reactions from the businesses and brands that operate pages on Facebook. Considering the users in mind, the formula will likely put little emphasis on page contents that are characterized as low quality that means those updates will reach fewer viewers that before.
