As of right now, the movie going public is just eight short months away from Zack Snyder's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." As such, it's no surprise that the film will loom large over this week's San Diego Comic-Con (especially with Marvel sitting this one out).

Although "Dawn" is Snyder's direct follow-up to his 2013 film "Man of Steel," it is not a sequel in the traditional sense.

"As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not a Superman sequel," star Henry Cavill said in an interview with EW. "It's more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel."

Superman die-hards may be disappointed to hear that the last son of Krypton isn't getting a more focused and individualized story.  But in the never-ending game of catch up that DC and Warner Bros. is playing with Marvel and Disney, the powers that be decided to set the stage for the two-part "Justice League" series sooner rather than later.

That's not to say that Cavill's Superman will be buried by all of the new additions. Based on the first teaser trailer for "Dawn of Justice," it appears as if Superman's existence is actually the catalyst for the film's story. That means the big boy in blue will still be front and center. But Ben Affleck's Batman will also be a major player and the film must take time to introduce Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and the Flash as well.

Still, another solo Supes flick is not out of the question despite not being on WB's official schedule just yet.

"There's plenty of time for individual Superman sequels," Cavill said. "He's a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can't really understand. Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories."
