Texas Woman Blinded By Flesh-Eating Bacteria While On Mud Run

A woman from Texas went blind in one eye within 24 hours due to a flesh-eating bacteria she came into contact with during a mud run in Dallas this month.

The young mother, who has two jobs, but no medical insurance, is now struggling to pay for her medical bills while fighting off the flesh-eating bacteria and trying to keep it from spreading, according to CBS News.

Brittany Williams, who contracted the disease while finishing a mud run, thought she just caught some debris in her eye. "When I opened my eye, it was just white," she told CBS.

According to Williams, debris may have cut her eye allowing the flesh-eating bacteria to destroy her cornea.

Because she opted out of her employer's health insurance, Williams is now facing steep medical bills amounting to more than $100,000 because her treatment is on-going in an attempt to keep the bacteria from spreading, according to Fox News

Her family is raising money through a GoFundMe account to help ease her financial burden.

In spite of her painful and difficult ordeal, Williams remains optimistic saying she is still making the best out of her experience.
