Civil rights activist Rachel Dolezal has been removed from her position as head of the police oversight commission by the Spokane City Council.

The council voted 6-0 on Thursday after Mayor David Condon and Ben Stuckart, the president of the Spokane Council, called for the dismissal of Dolezal and two others from their posts from the commission.

The removal also comes after an investigation was launched where it was discovered that the three commissioners had violated several government rules and had also acted inappropriately.

Interviews conducted on employees also confirm that there have been harassment incidents in the work place and "a pattern of misconduct" by the three commissioners, The Seattle Times reported.

Dolezal's removal from her post comes a few days after she resigned from her role as president of NAACP Spokane, as well as her parents coming forward with a claim that she had been lying about her cultural heritage.

Dolezal has received widespread media attention over questions about her racial identity, in which she has identified herself as black through the years, the New York Daily News reported.

However, her parents have revealed in a recent interview that Dolezal is actually a white woman passing off as black, bringing evidence with them, including a childhood photo of her having blonde hair and white skin.
