Abducted California teenager Hannah Anderson was returned home from Idaho on Saturday after a sighting by four horseback riders led to James Lee DiMaggio being found, shot and killed by federal officials.

The Idaho riders told Fox News pair rose "red flags" upon their encounter.  DiMaggio, 40, was vague about where they were heading and what they were doing in the wilderness.  One of the riders commented on Anderson's, 16, attire being unusual.

"I've spent a lot of time in the back country and usually you don't run into somebody wearing pajamas," Mike Young, 62, said.

Young added Anderson "kind of had a scared look on her face."

The four riders were Mike John, 71, John's wife Christa, 68, Young, and his wife, Mary Young, 61.  They had multiple encounters with the pair, and their second encounter with Anderson and DiMaggio was on Wednesday near a lake, as they heading home, according to Fox News.

"They didn't fit," Mike John, who is a former sheriff's deputy from Gem County, told Fox News. "He might have been an outdoorsman in California but he was not an outdoorsman in Idaho ... Red flags kind of went up."

The riders did not make the connection that DiMaggio was the man who police were looking for until Thursday when they returned home.  According to Fox News, they saw the photographs and immediately called Idaho State Police.  Their tip led to DiMaggio's car being found on Friday.

It wasn't until Saturday when two FBI hostage teams found DiMaggio and Anderson.  They were able to rescue the girl, but DiMaggio was shot and killed.

Few details have been released about the rescue.

Anderson's father, Brett, was incredibly grateful to have his daughter back, but is concerned about her well-being after the traumatizing event.

"I'm ecstatic that my daughter and I will soon be reunited," Brett told Fox News. "I'm worried about what my daughter has been put through."

Brett also thanked law enforcement officials for working tirelessly to find his daughter.

"They did an excellent job and I can never show my appreciation enough to anybody out there that showed us love and support; terrific country, love you guys," Brett said.

DiMaggio was a suspect in the murder of Hannah's mother Christina, and brother Ethan, who were found Monday night in the burnt ruins of DiMaggio's cabin.
