The Kiwi ladies, who outclassed Sri Lanka in their first encounter of the tournament, registered a massive 92-run victory over inexperienced Ireland at Mohali's IS Bindra stadium last week. "It was a very pleasing win because it was a complete performance with bat and ball. We needed such a win because we play Australia next and have to be at the top of our game," New Zealand skipper Suzie Bates said on Friday.

The Aussie women, on the other hand, registered a six-wicket win against South Africa in a Group A match of the 10-nation Women's WT20 on Friday. An unbeaten 52-run stand between skipper Meg Lanning (30) and Alex Blackwell (44) guided Australia to chase down a modest 103 with six wickets and nine balls to spare.

The Australian Women cricket team's coach Matthew Mott praised "inspirational" skipper Meg Lanning for her decision to play despite a gastro illness. "She really battled. She was very sick and we were worried she wouldn't be able to play. She was really struggling. Our doc got some injections into her and got her fit enough to bat. It was a pretty fantastic innings," Mott told AAP. "It took every ounce of courage she had to get out there. To bat like she did, having almost come off your death bed, it was pretty inspirational."
