Karen Montgomery, the actress and film producer who played the role of Princess Beata in an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1988, died Friday at the age of 66.

Montgomery passed away at her residence in Los Angeles after battling breast cancer for almost a decade, her husband Christopher Monger said, according to The Canada Journal.

Starting out as an actress, Montgomery embarked on a role behind the camera, working as an assistant to screenwriter Waldo Salt, director Hal Ashby and producer Bruce Gilbert for the film "Coming Home," which was released in 1978.

She worked mostly in the development departments of indie film companies as a producer throughout her entire career, producing films like "Row Your Boat" (1999), "'Til There Was You" (1997) and "Diary of a Hitman" (1991), the last of which was directed by Montgomery's friend and former acting coach Roy London, Variety reported.

Montgomery and her husband then produced the documentary "Special Thanks To Roy London" following London's death in 1993 from AIDS complications. The documentary premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City in 2005.

Montgomery was survived by her husband, her mother Susan Nelson and her brother Carl Montgomery, according to the Daily Mail.
