It has been eight months since Zayn Malik broke the hearts of teenage girls everywhere when he announced that he was leaving the most popular boy band on the planet, One Direction. Last night, the now foursome stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" where the host introduced the group to its newest member: a russet potato.

"We have some very exciting news for One Direction fans tonight," Kimmel told his audience. "We are going to do something that no band has ever done before, no band has ever done before. We're gonna welcome a new member to the One Direction family."

Kimmel then showed off the potato that was "raised in a field among many others." The "humble vegetable" did not know that it was about to become the worlds most famous potato. Kimmel even joked that by tomorrow, the potato would be on every entertainment news show and it could even be dating Ariana Grande.

Kimmel then went live to Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson backstage as they waited to meet "the potato." The new member was then presented to the group, who welcomed 1D the potato with open arms. To make everything official, Kimmel told the boys to take a picture of 1D the potato and post it to their Instagram account.

"Welcoming the newest member of our family. The One D Potato," Payne captioned the picture of the potato.

Throughout the show Kimmel kept on checking how the picture was doing on Instagram. By the end of the broadcast, the picture of 1D the potato had been liked over 116,000 times!
